“Big 4” Accounting Firm Migrates 14,000-User Jira Data Center Instance to Jira Cloud with Arctiq

INDUSTRY

Professional Services

With Atlassian Data Center approaching end-of-life, a global Big 4 accounting firm needed to migrate thousands of users, hundreds of projects, and complex integrations to the cloud without disrupting business operations. Arctiq developed a phased migration strategy that reduced risk, uncovered migration complexities early, and enabled a successful transition to Jira Cloud and Confluence Cloud.

The Company

As a global professional services organization offering advisory services for auditing, accounting, taxation, strategy management, and human resource consulting, this global “Big 4” firm serves leading companies across major vertical industries worldwide.

By the Numbers

500+ Jira Projects
• 14,000 Jira Users
• 200+ Confluence Spaces
•4,000 Confluence Users
• 2 swift migration engagement phases minimize risk

The Challenge

The global professional services firm had a Jira Data Center instance that contained more than 500 projects used by approximately 14,000 users. The company also had a U.S.-based Confluence Data Center instance with over 200 spaces and 4,000 users. Both on-premises environments needed to be effectively migrated to the Atlassian Cloud before the Atlassian data center solutions reached end-of- life.

The challenge was that the firm had invested heavily in enhancing its base Jira platform with third- party applications, creating standard templates to drive consistent delivery within critical practice areas. Customized solutions are also essential to the firm’s delivery ecosystem, especially for large workflow practices, including Oracle and SAP.

Our Solution

Arctiq engaged in building an efficient migration strategy for this “Big 4” accounting firm. Migration risk was mitigated by decoupling the migration assessment process from the planning phase. Arctiq's proven migration methodology dramatically reduced the risk of an improperly scoped migration effort and provided rapid customer value. The migration process was delivered successfully and on time by performing an intensive pre-migration assessment and providing a subsequent planning blueprint.

Results

The Arctiq migration process uncovered migration complexities up front, including unknown integrations, challenges with user management, application data migration paths, and API integrations. By taking the necessary time to formulate a migration strategy, the team reduced the need for post-migration reworks and delivered efficient Jira Cloud and Confluence Cloud implementations.

"Arctiq offered the best overall package to support our migration, and we were particularly pleased with how they appropriately addressed our key focus areas."
