Babylon Union Free School District

INDUSTRY

Educational

The Babylon Union Free School District is a thriving educational community with approximately 1,600 students and 150 faculty across three schools. Located in Long Island, NY, Babylon provides a rich diversity of recreational, social, and cultural opportunities. The Board of Education strives to maintain a comprehensive approach to satisfy the educational needs of the students of the district by meeting or exceeding the state’s requirements.

Arctiq (formerly DynTek) helped the Babylon Union Free School District significantly upgrade its IT network, resulting in enhanced student learning and improved safety measures.

Challenge

The Board has established seven priority areas as part of its “Forward Together” improvement blueprint. Achieving success in two of those areas – providing technically advanced schools and ensuring a safe school climate – required a full overall of the district’s IT network.

As part of their technology plan, Babylon needed a district-wide WiFi network to optimize the use of tablets they had provided to students. Their security plan required installing security cameras throughout the grounds and buildings of the schools. Neither of these were possible with the existing, antiquated Alcatel network which was at end of life. Babylon engaged Arctiq to help drive the implementation of the new network.

Solution

Working to complete the work over the summer to be ready for the fall schools’ opening, Arctiq installed a comprehensive new network in six weeks.

Arctiq’s six phase methodology consisted of discovery, initial walk through to determine scope, high level design, deployment to outline configuration details, analysis to capture configurations and patch panel discoveries, and testing to confirm connectivity after each cutover.

Results

“Over the past year, Babylon has gone through a massive technology overhaul of which Arctiq has been an integral part,” said David Dileo, District Director of Technology and Accountability. “We would not have been able to accomplish rebuilding our entire network in less than two months without the Arctiq team.”

With the new network in place, Babylon has made significant strides in meeting their goal of “expanding their infrastructure needed to support dedicated, high speed connections that provide better access to innovative digital technologies and teaching/learning opportunities in a technologically advanced world.”
